Say It Ain't So: The White Stripes Call It Quits
World renowned musical duo Jack and Meg White, who are more commonly known by their band name, The White Stripes, regretfully informed their fans, just yesterday, of the band's sudden break up. Initially this came as quite a shock to me personally, as the two are married and my mind immediately went to a more personal level—divorce. But as the two long time rockers disclosed in a letter to their fans, it seems to be nothing personal between the two, not even anything artistically differing related, which is why the majority of musical acts part ways.
“The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health,” the statement to their fans reads. “It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band have it stay that way.
I get it I guess. You want to go out on top, and if you feel that you can no longer put forth your heart and soul into something, then why do it at all? The band did merit quite the bit of success throughout their 13 year go 'round—awarded all sorts of popularity, recognition, and album sales. The sad thing is that we are losing one of only a handful of truly unique artists amidst an over-saturated state of music, currently.
In regards to the state of their departure, Jack and Meg left their following with this:
“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on any of us and we are truly grateful.”
Bowing out gracefully—no matter what the reason truly is, at least they are conducting themselves with top notch class and good hearted fortune.
