Woman Complains About Smoker And Gets Stabbed In Face With Pen
NEW YORK CITY, New York ~ (NY Daily News / New York Post / MSNBC) ~ A New Jersey woman riding on a New York City subway complained about a smoker and was stabbed in the face with a pen, according to police.
According to a police report given to the New York Daily News, 35-year-old Caroberto Cordero had put a fresh cigarette in his mouth and was about to light up when 45-year-old Evelyn Seeger told him to stop, as smoking is not allowed on the trains. Witnesses told the Daily News and the New York Post that an arguement between the two subway riders quickly escalated. Cordero, who is homeless, waved his lighter in front of the woman's face. Seeger started yelling at the man, and while two other passengers were trying to restrain Cordero, he slashed Seeger's face with a pen.
Ronethea Williams, eyewitness to the assault, said, "I looked up and the woman had blood gushing from her face. Someone yelled, 'He stabbed her in the eye!'" Seeger was treated at a local hospital and released; police have charged Cordero with felony assault and possession of a weapon. The incident occurred on crowded No. 3 Train near the Chambers Street station during the morning rush hour of April 19th.
