Woman Arrested After Seeking Weed on Craigslist

ROSWELL, N.M. – A New Mexico woman was arrested Wednesday after she posted a Craigslist ad saying she was looking to purchase marijuana.

Anamicka Dave, 29, of Roswell placed an ad on Craigslist explaining she was new to the area and looking for Mary Jane, KOB-TV, Albuquerque, reported Wednesday.

Roswell Police Sgt. Ty Sharpe said the online posting was so blatant, he had to make sure it wasn’t posted by another undercover officer.

“I was surprised, I was really surprised that someone would actually put on there they were looking for weed -- an actual illegal product -- to the fact that I called my boss to make sure it wasn’t one of our guys trying to do a reverse sting.” Sharpe told the station.

After ensuring it was not, an undercover officer began his communication with Dave.

Roswell police spokesman, Travis Holley said an undercover officer confirmed through an exchange of e-mails that it was marijuana she was looking to buy, and arranged a meeting place to complete the transaction.

Holley said, “The undercover buy was necessary for an arrest because seeking marijuana on the Internet was not a crime,”

"They might just be joking around," he added.

The person "must show intent to carry out that plan," Holley said. The officer "responded to the ad, and she took the bait."

Undercover officers met with Dave in a parking lot Monday night and arrested her after she attempted buy pot.

Dave was charged with felony criminal solicitation and was later released from  the Chavez County jail on a $5,000 bond.

It was unclear if Dave had an attorney, and a message left at a phone listing for her wasn't immediately returned Wednesday.

Dave’s arrest came after a narcotics officer surfing the Web on his own time spotted her posting.
