Vegas Gets More Italian Flavor With Da Vinci
It’s easy to see, given the names of the casinos, architecture choices, and the overall attitude of Las Vegas, Sin City has been infused with Italian influence. In keeping with this motif, “Beginning June 15, Imagine Exhibitions, Inc. will present Da Vinci – The Genius, the most comprehensive exploration of Leonardo da Vinci’s work ever created, for a limited engagement at The Venetian® in Las Vegas,” according to a recent press release.
Now this isn’t the first time people skillfully threw together great Italian masterpieces for an exhibit. So, how is this one different? According to its PR, “Da Vinci – The Genius demonstrates the full scope of Leonardo Da Vinci’s remarkable genius as an inventor, artist, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, musician and architect.” A man that wore many hats indeed! And actually deserved to wear them. Makes you wonder what he would have thought about these talentless YouTube turned reality stars. “I’m a model, an actress, a singer, deejay, and host.” Of course you are honey. Let’s forget for a moment that you pay your rent with tips from the Olive Garden and do us all a favor and see how many of those skills you can master in the middle of traffic.
The release further states that, “Guests will enjoy more than 200 unique pieces including 75 life-size machine inventions, three-dimensional renderings of da Vinci’s most notable Renaissance works and an eye-opening, in-depth analysis of his most famous piece, ‘Mona Lisa.’ ”
If you’d like to check out this exhibit, “Doors open to the public on Friday, June 15. Tickets for Da Vinci – The Genius will be available for purchase at The Venetian box office and venetian.com; prices are as follows: adult ($25), senior/military ($23), Nevada residents ($20), children 12 and under ($18). Da Vinci – The Genius will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.” That’s a lot of different rates! Am I the only one that feels you need to be a genius just to figure out how much it will cost you to bring the wife, the kids in the stroller, the teen and her boyfriend, the amputee father-in-law, grandma, and that friend you never really liked who moved out of state and still hasn’t returned your damn lawn mower?
As I see it, given the Da Vinci addition, there are two ways to do Vegas – Italian style… bearing in mind, they are the antithesis of each other depending upon which kind of Italian experience you want. If you want masterful Italian art and culture, “Da Vinci – The Genius” is probably the way to go. If you want music that can’t help but make you smile, put you in the mood for a cannoli, and you just want to forgetta ‘bout it, you should probably make yourself an offer you can’t refuse and head down the street to the Mafia museum. No matter what you view there… remember, you didn’t see nothin’!
