Singer Amy Winehouse Dead at 27
LONDON, England --- Soul singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her north London flat Saturday according to police. She was 27-years-old.
The Rehab singer who has battled with drugs and alcohol recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.
Winehouse was found at the property by emergency services at 3.54pm this afternoon, according to sources, and her death is being treated as 'unexplained' by police.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: 'Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.
When emergency services arrived they found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is not clear if Amy’s father Mitch is aware of his daughter’s death. According to Sky News Mitch is on a plane to New York to take part in a Jazz festival.
Winehouse recently canceled her European tour after a disastrous performance in Serbia where she seemed to be under the influence.
Enraged fans posted a video onto the net of a visibly intoxicated Winehouse trying to keep in tune while singing one of her songs.
Earlier this week Winehouse made an appearance at the ITunes festival where it was reported she staggered onto the stage and grabbed a microphone and urged the crowd to buy her new album.
Besides her troubles with drugs and alcohol, Winehouse also had a troubled marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil which ended in divorce in the summer of 2009.
It was also rumored that Blake was the one who introduced Amy to heroin and crack cocaine.
