Shape Magazine Editor says LeAnn Rimes Cover was “A Terrible Mistake”

When I first heard that Shape Magazine was freaking out over a “terrible mistake” they made with the October issue and cover of LeAnn Rimes, I figured they had forgotten to use Photoshop on her cellulite or something. Little did I know that the actual problem was with Rimes being featured in the first place.

The editor-in-chief of Shape apologized for her decision to put Rimes on the cover alongside the coverline ‘How Working Out Saved Me.”

Doesn’t sound too scandalous so what’s the problem.

Well, in the interview with the magazine, LeAnn opens up about cheating on her now ex-husband Dean Sheremet and how working out with her secret lover, and now current boyfriend Eddie Cibrian (who was also married when they began their affair), helped keep her sane during the whole love triangle.

Um, ok.

Shape’s editor apologizes to readers stating, “please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story) how we all are human. And this woman in particular found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment. But it did not come across that way ... And for that I'm terribly sorry.”

I actually think it’s hilariously ridiculous but a lot of Shape’s readers weren’t so amused, and actually very disappointed, which is why Shape is eating a few helpings of humble pie for its gaffe.

Thing is, Shape made a bad judgment call, which is fine, mistakes happen. But LeAnn what the hell were you thinking telling everyone the details about your cheating and then assuming you were going to get props from readers with comments like, “After going through this, I know I can face anything” or “I put me first. I'm sure some people are thinking that I was totally selfish, but the truth is, there are times in your life when you have to be selfish in order to find out what truly makes you happy.”

So basically my take on the interview is this; “baby, I cheated on you and made a fool of you in public and in front of your family and friends, but don’t worry, I’ve learned so much and am stronger for it now.”

Sorry LeAnn, no sympathy here.
