Russian Woman Wakes up at Own Funeral and Dies
KAZAN, Russia—“Waking up dead” --- A Russian woman died from a heart attack caused by shock after waking up to discover she was inside a coffin at her own funeral.
Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov, 49, was mistakenly declared dead by doctors, the Daily Mail reported Friday.
Devastated husband, Fagili Mukhametzyanov, 51, had been told his wife had died of a heart attack after she'd collapsed at home suffering from chest pains.
Friends and family were visible shaken when Mukhametzyanov woke-up and began screaming after realizing she was about to be buried alive.
Mukhametzyanov said: 'Her eyes fluttered and we immediately rushed her back to the hospital, but she only lived for another 12 minutes in intensive care before she died again, this time for good.’
In an interview with his local newspaper Mukhametzyanov said he is strongly considering legal action against the hospital.
She wasn't dead when they said she was, and they could have saved her."
Hospital spokesman Minsalih Sahapov said: 'We are carrying out an investigation.'
As shocking as this sounds, this is not the first time a hospital has declared someone dead only to have them wake up during a funeral.
In 2009, a baby born 16-weeks premature in Asuncion, Paraguay was declared dead by local doctors only to wake up during its own funeral service hours later.
In that case, Dr. Ernesto Weber head of pediatric care at the state-run hospital in the city of Asuncion said, “Initially, the baby didn’t move, he practically didn’t have any respiratory reflexes, nor did we hear a heartbeat and, as a result, we declared a premature fetus dead.”
The baby boy was taken back to the hospital and placed in an incubator.
