Rapper T.I. Felony Drug Charges in LA ‘Dead and Gone’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. ---- Rapper T.I. will not face a felony drug charge in California. Los Angeles County Prosecutors declined to file charges against the hip hop star who was arrested last month on the Sunset strip for felony drug possession.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., was on supervised release after serving a year in prison on federal weapon charges, Harris and his wife were pulled over by Sheriff deputies for a traffic violation on Sept. 1.

Deputies arrested the couple after they found four Ecstasy pills during their search.

As a condition of his early release, the 30-year-old rapper agreed not to commit another crime while on supervised release or to illegally posses a controlled substance.

On Oct. 15, in Atlanta, Judge Pannell Jr. sentenced Harris to 11-months in prison for violating that court order.

The deputy district attorney in LA cited the small amount of drugs found and Harris’ current sentencing as reasons for not pursuing the felony drug charges.

"The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office's decision to reject TI's case was the right thing to do under the circumstances," Harris' attorney, Steve Sadow, wrote in an e-mail to the Associated Press. He commended the office for "exercising its discretion to reject prosecution in light of the legal and factual issues involved."

The Grammy-award-winning rapper with such hits as "Whatever You Like" and "Dead and Gone," is expected to begin his prison term Nov.1.
