Pot Sniffing Pooches Pinch Comedian Ralph May in Guam
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Comedian Ralphie May was arrested and fined last week, after petting drug-sniffing dogs while going through customs in Guam. The dogs alerted agents to a small amount of ganja that was later found in his suitcase.
May, who has a medical marijuana card, told TMZ, he didn’t realize he was carrying the herbage in his bag while petting the pair of pot-sniffing pooches.
The 38-year-old, May explains, "When I got to baggage claim, I actually walked up to the dog. I love dogs and petted Nickey, the beautiful shepherd mix, and she sat down. That indicates to the handler that I had marijuana on me. I didn't know that, I just thought that dog loved me. Then another dog came over and it sat down as well and I petted that dog too. I was thinking these dogs love me they can tell I'm a dog person."
During the search, custom agents found less than an ounce of marijuana in May’s luggage.
The season one, “Last Comic standing,” performer was fortunate to find some understanding custom agents to explain the mix-up. "The custom agents said they knew I didn't mean to smuggle drugs into Guam cause no drug smuggler would be stupid enough to walk up to the dogs and pet them." May said.
After paying the small fine, May went on to do a series of performances there.
May said, he loved his time in Guam, but is happy to be home.
