Passion of the ‘Hangover’ Leaves Gibson Out of Sequel
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. ---- Hollywood can be a fickle mistress once scorned. Case in point Mel Gibson’s cameo in the ‘Hangover’ sequel was axed this week amid protest from studio executives and cast.
Just days after the story of Mel Gibson‘s cameo was leaked to the press, the film’s director Todd Phillips says Mel Gibson will not be appearing in the sequel to the 2009 hit comedy after all. “I thought Mel would have been great in the movie, and I had the full backing of [WB President] Jeff Robinov and his team,” Phillips says in the statement. “But I realize film making is a collaborative effort, and this decision did not ultimately have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”
Sources close to the film say some of the production people became very upset with the idea of casting Gibson to play a crazy tattoo artist that the cast and crew started putting pressure on studio executives and Phillips to get rid of Gibson.
TMZ reports many of the cast and crew were getting crap from friends, so they began to object. The film’s breakout star, Zach Galifianakis was reportedly one of the loudest.
Galifianakis hinted to Comedy Death-Ray Radio host Scott Aukerman that he was upset about a recent turn of events related to a film on which he's currently working.
"But a movie you're acting in, you don't have a lot of control — you just show up and vomit your lines out," Galifianakis said. "I'm not the boss. I'm in a deep protest right now with a movie I'm working on, up in arms about something. But I can't get the guys to [listen] ... I'm not making any leeway."
As one person connected with Mel told TMZ, "It's such hypocrisy. They cast a convicted rapist [Mike Tyson] but 86'd Mel."
