Pac-Man, Cotto… Battle of the Welterweights
Fight night goes down in Sin City as Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao returns for the much-anticipated Welterweight title bout against current Champion, Miguel Cotto. The contenders weigh in today on the scales at MGM Grand Arena.
Former Olympian and Puerto Rican boxer, Miguel Cotto, multiple welterweight Champ has defended his title against the likes of Zab Judah, “Sugar” Shane Mosley and is set to take on Filipino boxing phenomenon, Manny Pacquiao. The Pac-Man is currently rated as the #1 pound for pound boxer in the world.
Pacquiao, who last stepped in the MGM Garden Arena ring in May of this year, won his last bout against Ricky Hatton. In what can only be described as an amazingly short title bout, Pacquiao knocked Hatton down twice in the first round, sending him flat on the mat in the second round for the KO.
Tomorrow’s fight sets up the Pac-Man to take his record-breaking seventh world title against 29 year-old Cotto. Cotto is currently 34-1 with 27 KO’s versus Pacquiao’s 49-3-2, 37 KO record.
Pacquiao, who earlier this year, took down Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya in a phenomenal eight-round match, stands intrepid in the face of yet another Championship bout.
“This is the most important fight of my career. Cotto believes he's stronger and bigger than me. And of course I believe in myself. If I win this fight, it will be history for boxing and for the Philippines."
