Mike Myers Signs on for`Austin Powers 4’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. ---“Groovy!” – Actor, comedian Mike Myers has agreed to bring Austin Powers back to the big screen for a fourth installment of the `spy spoof movies, Hit Fix reports.
Myers, 48, reportedly signed the deal last weekend to return to the popular franchise. However, plot details and cast have yet to be announced.
No word if director Jay Roach, who helmed the first three Austin Powers movies, will return to direct the fourth film.
In fact, there's no confirmation that a script has even been written, though New Line commissioned one in 2008 and Myers has frequently said that it's a work in progress. But this news definitely seems to inspire hope that an "Austin Powers 4" is on its way at some point soon.
During the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival, Roach told MTV News that Myers was working on ideas for a script, though it wasn’t completed yet. Myers later echoed that while promoting “Shrek Forever After at Tribeca.
The Canadian born funny man introduced audiences to his hilarious snaggle-toothed Powers character in 1997’s " Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery,” which reportedly grossed over $67 million worldwide.
The 1999 follow-up, “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” took in over $310 million, and the most-recent installment, “Austin Powers in Goldmember” in 2002, reportedly earned $296 million.
However, Myers’ 2008 film “The Love Guru” failed to make a profit at the box office, sending him on a self-imposed hiatus from Hollywood, with only a brief appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards.
Another box office win is just what the doctor ordered. Myers and his new wife are expecting their first child together.
Myers’ and wife Kelly Tisdale were secretly married in New York in 2010.
