MGM Grand Lion Habitat Las Vegas/Nature’s First “Dead Beat Dad”
MGM Grand Hotel and Casino has created a one-of-a-kind Lion Habitat for the thousands of tourists that come through the hotel every day. An amazing sound-proof, temperature controlled environment keeps the lions safe from the guests (and vice/versa). Animal lovers appreciate that the cats are only kept in the habitat for only five to six hours at a time and otherwise live in custom accommodations on an 8.5-acre ranch 12 miles from the MGM Grand.
I have to say I was impressed. What gorgeous animals. There were two lions in the space; a male and female. The lazy male sat at the top of the enclosure preening and chewing on bones (Ladies, does this sound familiar?). The female was feisty and played with giant dog toys that the four trainers threw to her.

My companion informed me that in the wild, the females do all the work, hunting and bringing back food. The male eats first and his only job is to be the stud....Oh and occasionally protect the family.....hmmm....This sounds suspect….He could at least get a part time job....or put the cubs to bed occasionally....Right?
The lion habitat is located inside the MGM Grand Hotel-Casino at the south end of the Strip where Las Vegas Boulevard meets Tropicana Avenue. Open daily, 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. However, the staff switches the lions from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Free to the public.
