Man In Wheelchair Travels From Baker To Las Vegas For Charity
Scott Pfeiffer, diagnosed with ALS in May 2007, is determined not to let the disease get him down. So much so that he decided to travel 150 miles from Baker California to Las Vegas by way of his wheelchair to raise awareness and funds for ALS. Today, he will arrive at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas.
ALS is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It attacks the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, which control the movement of voluntary muscles. Imagine being diagnosed with this muscle-killing disease, and wheeling yourself 150 miles from one state to another!
Pfeiffer’s journey is part of “Racin’ for a Cure,” an organization which intends to help raise awareness and fund research efforts for ALS. He is due to arrive at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Las Vegas at 4:00pm in front of the Casino today for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and a reception will be held in his honor at 7:00pm.
