Liam Neeson Finally Opens Up About Natasha Richardson’s Death

One of our favorite Irish actors, Liam Neeson, 58, who has starred in many big Hollywood flicks including; Gangs of New York, The Haunting and most recently The A-Team, has finally opened up to the world about his wife Natasha Richardson’s untimely death as a result of a ski accident two years ago.

While filming in Montreal, Neeson was called and told his wife had been hurt and was in the hospital. Unfortunately, and from that point on, just getting to her turned into an extremely agonizing experience for the actor.

"I walked into the emergency -- it's like 70, 80 people, broken arms, black eyes, all that -- and for the first time in years, nobody recognizes me," he tells Esquire magazine. "Not the nurses. The patients. No one... So I went outside. It's freezing cold, and I thought, What am I gonna do? How am I going to get past the security?"

Luckily a nurse finally recognized him and directed him to his wife’s bedside.  “I see two nurses, ladies, having a cigarette. I walk up, and luckily one of them recognizes me. And I'll tell you, I was so f***ing grateful -- for the first time in I don't know how long -- to be recognized. So I get there, just in time. And all these young doctors, who look all of eighteen years of age, they tell me the worst. The worst.”

Neeson and Richardson were married for 14 years and have two sons. Figuring out how to survive without her has been difficult.

"I think I survived by running away some. Running away to work," he admits. "That's the weird thing about grief...You can't prepare for it. You think you're gonna cry and get it over with. You make those plans, but they never work."
However the pain shows no signs of disappearing. Neeson continues, "It hits you in the middle of the night -- well, it hits me in the middle of the night. I'm out walking. I'm feeling quite content. And it's suddenly, boom, it's like you've just done that in your chest."
