Kindergartner Brings Meth, Crack Pipe for Show-And Tell
ST. LOUIS, Missouri – “Show-N-Tell” -A Kindergartner in rural Missouri, brought a bag of crystal meth and a crack pipe to school for Show-and-tell, school officials said Tuesday.
Superintendent Donna Wright said the unidentified boy was, “Very excited,” when he arrived at school to show off his new found treasures.
Adding, “I don’t think he knew what he had.”
The kindergartner brought an ounce of crystal meth, with an estimated street value of $3,700 to the Sweet Springs Elementary School on Sept 6, according to local KCTV-5
According to court documents, students had been asked to bring “pictures of their family for show-and-tell.”
An alert teacher recognized the drugs and the pipe and police were called to the elementary school before the kindergartner could show off his new found adult toys.
"It didn't ever get into the classroom," Wright added.
Police, executing a search warrant found a crack pipe in the boy’s home. The boy's mother, 32-year-old; Michelle Cheatham was arrested on drug charges and released after posting $7,500 bail. She was later hospitalized with complications from a previous gastrointestinal surgery, a friend told KCTV-5.
The boy was being cared for by loved ones, the friend said.
"That was a first for show-and-tell in this town," Police Chief Richard Downing said. He added “When I called the prosecutor about it, they said, “You kidding me aren’t you?”
"It was shocking," Wright said. "We're not experienced with dealing with this."
The town, located 66 miles east of Kansas City on the Blackwater River, has 1,500 residents and about 425 students in its school system.
