Howard Stern Calls Jay Leno ‘Horrible’ on Letterman

Howard Stern was trying a little too hard again the other night on The Late Show with David Letterman, attempting to reignite new ‘late night wars’ between Letterman and Leno for shock value.

Snore.

"You know, as well as everyone in this room," he said to Letterman; “Jay is horrible, right? I didn't like Jay, I never liked Jay, I can't stand Jay. I've never seen anybody who behaves like a robot like this guy. I watched his final show, he's reading off a teleprompter for crying out loud. Where's the emotion and where's the humanity?"

Letterman only laughed but didn’t reply.

He called Leno talentless and even criticized Letterman for doing last year’s Super Bowl ad with him. "I never understood it," he said."We had the guy down on the ground... You had your foot on his neck."

"Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time, and people sort of responded favorably to it,” Letterman explained.

"I didn't like it,” Stern responded, sticking to his guns.

Thing is, Leno’s rating are twice as high as Letterman’s, and have been for the past 2 years, but I don’t think that David Letterman cares that much anyway because he knows he’s still too popular to be fired.

Stern also told Letterman’s staff that they need an “attitude adjustment” and even criticized Letterman’s sidekick Paul Shaffer for being “complacent.”

Down boy. We get it. You’re so ‘hardcore.’

Stern claimed all his ranting and raving was actually done out of support. "I'm in your corner, I'm rooting for you, I don't want the same thing happening to you that happened to Regis."

Stern also made a public apology to Letterman for something that happened very early in both their careers. Apparently, Letterman used to call Stern at home and then Stern would talk about their conversations on his show. When Letterman found out, he stopped calling Stern altogether.

"I really want to apologize to you for doing that,” Stern said sincerely. "And if you should call me again, I would not reveal what you said."
