OAKLAND PARK, Florida (Oakland Park Sun-Sentinel) ~ Broward County Sheriff's Office has arrested a local man and has charged him with sexually assaulting his roommate's chihuahua.
40-year-old Tomas Bautista
was taken into custody and now faces a 3rd-degree felony charge of cruelty to an animal, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella. 67-year-old Clemente Velasquez says Mimi, his 3-year-old chihuahua mix has been treated by a veterinarian and in recovery in their home; Velasquez told the Sun-Sentinel
, "she is now just lying down on the sofa," Velasquez said. "She's not happy like she normally is."
Velasquez said he came home and found his roommate Bautista drunk; Velasquez told him he should go to bed, but instead Bautista went out into the backyard. The dog followed the drunk man and a few minutes later Mimi was heard yelping, so Velasquez grabbed a flashlight and ran outside. There he found his dog running from Bautista, who was passed out on the ground with his pants down.
Velasquez then discovered that his dog was bleeding, so he notified the authorities and took his pet to the Coral Springs Animal Hospital. Florida is one of about a dozen states with no law specifically banning sex with animals, so he was charged with cruelty to animals and was in Broward's main jail on $2500 bond.
