Five Great Weekend Getaways for Valentine’s Day [LIST]

California and its coast have some wonderful places to offer for a weekend’s adventure or romantic getaway. If you are hoping to see for yourself over the upcoming Valentine weekend, we have some suggestions for hot-spots. There is plenty of romance to be found.

1-Big Sur. Here is arguably the best outdoor playground California has to offer. You can find private balconies over cliffs with Jacuzzi and spectacular ocean views. You can spot Grey, Humpback or Blue whales and see the Monarch butterflies migrating. You might see the sea otters floating in the seaweed or spy on the Elephant seals. It is a drive sure to satisfy.

2-Catalina Island. This place is dubbed the “Island of Romance”. You must forage 26 miles out into the sea either by motor or sail. Avalon is the main town and it features a certain charm like the Mediterranean offers. You can find beautiful shores to spend time at and rest in beach bungalows, bed and breakfasts or four-star inns.

3-Desert Hot Springs. Maybe you didn’t think of going inland. But the hot springs are a great getaway for sure sun and warmth. Drive into the desert and view all its particular specialties like the cactus. This is a smart choice if you want a bit of pampering, too, because this part of the dry country has plenty of mineral springs and spas. You can find haciendas or go for the Moorish style accommodation.

4-San Diego. Only a couple hours of driving down the coast, and you come to San Diego. A weekend alone couldn’t give you enough hours to do everything here. You could roam the old town and spend a romantic evening strolling the Gaslamp District. Coronado Island is just across the bridge and has an opulent, Spanish charm. There is plenty of shopping to do in the trendy Pacific Beach area. And if you are brave enough, you can take the trolley to Tijuana.

5-Santa Barbara. Just an hour to the North of LA you can find a place to hideaway. Known as the “American Riviera”, you only have to visit once to understand why. It boasts the Los Padres National Forest as well as being wine country. There is also a bit of beach community feeling here. There is also plenty of boutiques, stucco and red tile roofs.
