Elton John and Husband David Furnish Welcome a New Edition on Christmas Day
Elton John and his long time partner David Furnish received a very special Christmas gift this year. On Christmas Day they received, via a surrogate, their new baby boy, Zachary. The newest edition to the John family was born in California and weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces, according to US Magazine. The proud parents named their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John.
In a statement released by the new parents they expressed their excitement by saying, "We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment," the Furnish-Johns said in a joint statement. "Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents." This is not the first time Sir Elton and David have tried to become parents, in 2009 while traveling with the World AIDS Foundation, John met and fell in love with a 14 month old Ukraine boy. The international laws on adoption prohibited the couple from adopting the boy, but John promised to provide financial support for the boy and his younger brother and has since done so.
John and Furnish have been a couple for more than a decade, since meeting in 1993, and entered into a civil union in 2005. The two met through a mutual friend at a dinner party and immediately fell in love. Now, that their family is complete, I would like to say congratulations to two very wonderful caring people who work so hard to make our world a better place and bring awareness to AIDS and fund in its research.
