Dunkin Donuts Worker Busted for Offering to Dunk more than Donuts
MINE HILL, N.J. –“Coffee, tea or me”—A New Jersey Dunkin’ Donuts employee was arrested after offering her services as a prostitute to customers during her late night shift.
Melissa Redmond, 29, of Mine Hill, worked the 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. shift at the Dunkin’ Donuts on route 46, where she would offer to glaze customer’s donuts for an extra $50-$100.
Detective Sgt. Kyle Schwarzmann said the six-week investigation dubbed “Extra Sugar” by police was begun from an “anonymous tip” in June, The Daily Record, Parsippany, N.J. reported Tuesday.
Schwarzmann said he conducted surveillance on several occasions and saw Redmond follow customers to their cars and spend 10 to 15 minutes inside the vehicles.
"Sometimes I’d even see money changing hands," Schwarzmann said.
A Major break in the donut caper occurred after an undercover officer, or “John” went to the donut shop and spoke with Redmond, Schwarzmann said. The undercover officer reported that Redmond offered her sexual services soon after their initial meeting,
Not content with the evidence, the undercover officer met with Redmond once again around 3 a.m. on July 27 and was given a list of prices for what she had to offer, Schwarzmann said. Redmond took the cash offered and was arrested, he said.
She was "forthcoming about everything," according to Schwarzmann.
Police said they discovered that Redmond had been offering her services on and off for the past three years.
Redmond, who faces a prostitution-related disorderly person charge, was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on August 10.
The franchise owner of the Dunkin' Donuts shop put Redmond on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Dunkin' Brands Inc., spokesman Andrew Mastrangelo.
