Drake Cancels Collaborative Album with Lil Wayne, To Make Mixtape with Rick Ross
It may be a week earlier than expected, but Drake is taking over the headlines — everywhere. As we told you, his album Take Care, unfortunately leaked roughly a week early, but the Toronto-based artist seems to remain in good spirits.
We do have some moderately saddening news for Young Money fans, however. Rumor had it, as well as both Drake and Lil Wayne all but confirming, that the two YM front-men had a collaborative project in the works. But after the release of Jay-Z and Kanye West's much-appreciated Watch The Throne album, Drizzy and Weezy have decided to cancel their go — for now, at least.
Aubrey recently sat down with XXL Magazine as he told them, “Me and Wayne scrapped the idea of a collaboration album. We just agreed that it would be looked upon as… It would be sort of this competition [with Watch The Throne]. I feel like it would get caught in this whirlwind of hype. [Wayne] agreed. We just said, ‘If we do it, we’ll do it down the line. But right now is not the time.’”
While we can understand the reasoning, it wasn't til after Hov and Ye's album had already dropped, when Drake and Wayne revealed their plans to produce one. So some slight head-scratching going on on our end — but oh well.
Not so fast, though — as Drake did reveal during the same chat with XXl, that he and his fellow South Florida connect, Rick Ross, will now be cranking out a joint mixtape, titled Y.O.LO.
"I have been working on a mixtape with Ross. A mixtape called Y.O.L.O. [That means] ‘You Only Live Once’. I’ve been working on that for the last couple of weeks. We haven’t really connected because he’s been going through this thing with his health. I’ve been stashing my little beats and verses."
So while most wanted the heavy-hitter duo of Drake and Lil Wayne, you will have to settle for Ricky Ross, although as of late, he has been producing more quality and consistent music than Wayne anyway.
