COLD BLOODED: Celebrity Chef Refuses to Meet With Make-A-Wish Kid
EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. ----“Heartless Contessa” --- TV chef Ina Garten also known as the Barefoot Contessa is as heartless as they come, after refusing to grant a six-year-old boy with cancer his wish.
Enzo, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia three-years ago, had one wish, to meet and cook with TV Food Network star Ina Garten. However, when the Make-A-Wish Foundation approached the Barefoot Contessa last year about the idea, her reps said she had no time in her schedule to meet the boy because she was on a book tour.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation urged Enzo to choose another wish, but Enzo said he wanted to wait until she became available.
When M.A.W. contacted Garten reps this year to reschedule the meeting with the boy who had watched her show from his sick bed, Garten replied with a definite no.
A member of Enzo's family told TMZ that the 6-year-old is heartbroken ... and asked parents, "Why doesn't she want to meet me?"
A rep for Garten told TMZ, "Despite her demanding schedule, [Ina] participates and helps as many organizations as she can throughout the year, helping children and adults like Enzo with life threatening and compromising illnesses.
In response to the news that Garten shattered a little boy’s dreams, many people expressed outrage and anger toward the Hampton based TV chef.
One of the most biting came from Business Insider: "We're sure that she truly is pretty busy. But if she had time to throw a charity lunch for six Hamptonites -- who paid $100,000 to be there -- she can make time to whip up some meringues with a six-year-old.”
In response to the snubbing from the rich, bloated Hampton pig, Iron Chef Michael Symon and Food Network star Beau MacMillan have reached out to Enzo in hopes of meeting and cooking with the boy.
MacMillan said he would like to fly Enzo and his family out to Arizona and put them up in an exclusive resort and treat them all to a VIP dinner at his 5-star restaurant.
