Catherine Zeta-Jones is Bi…Polar: Starlet Checks into Mental Facility
Hollywood, Calif. –“The Mask of Two Zetas”-- Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has reportedly checked herself into a mental health facility in Connecticut for a bipolar disorder according to People.com.
Catherine's reps told People.com, "After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar Disorder."
Jones, 41, checked herself into Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut on Monday for treatment according to gossip site TMZ.
The Welsh born actress who rose to fame in such films as, ‘Entrapment’, ‘Traffic’ and ‘The Mask of Zorro’ has had a rough year after it was announced her husband, actor, Michael Douglas had throat cancer.
Catherine has been by Michael’s side while the 66-year-old actor lost 32lbs during his aggressive cancer treatment. On January 11, 2011 Douglas announced his tumor was gone, and he was cancer free.
"There's no question it's been a stressful year," the friend tells People.com. "Catherine has had to deal with Michael's illness, and that's been hard. She went in for a few days because she's about to start working, and wanted to make sure she's in top form, which she is."
Bipolar disorder, a mental illness marked by elevated or irritable moods alternating with periods of depression, afflicts about 6 million Americans. Those with Bipolar II tend to have more depression, with the mood swings spread over a longer time and the "up" periods less elevated. The episodes can be triggered by major stress or life changes.
Jones was reportedly at the facility for only five days according to some reports while others still have her listed at Silver Hill. Either way, five days to treat Bipolar Disorder is a medical first.
