Boston Woman Delivers 13-Pound Baby, Naturally!
BOSTON, Mass. ---- ‘OUCH!’-- A New England woman delivered a 13-pound, 2-ounce, baby boy Thursday morning at a Boston area hospital, naturally.
After 4 hours of labor and 10 minutes of pushing, Amanda Byron, 21, gave birth to Jonathan Patrick Rozzi according to the Boston Herald.
"When they told me his weight I didn't realize how big a deal this was until everyone started taking pictures," said Byron.
“The doctor said it’s the biggest she’s delivered naturally, and the nurses were all so surprised at his size. I was told the last big baby was 12 pounds but that was a C-section,” she said. “Everyone’s asking me ‘How did you do it?’ It wasn’t as much pain as I thought it would be. So I just smile and shrug.”
The 13-pound, 2-ounce, 22-inch long baby Rozzi did not break any records ---Guinness World Records lists a baby as big as 22 pounds, 8 ounces, born in 1955, in Italy. Wow, to put that in perspective, here is a picture of a 22-pound turkey, imagine the pain that poor woman endured.
However, Byron knew to expect a bigger-than-average-sized baby from early ultrasound readings.
“We thought maybe 9 or 10 pounds and that the average size is 6 to 8 pounds. They don’t know why he’s so big. I had a normal, well-balanced diet — avoided caffeine and sodas,” said Byron adding that big genes are not prominent in either her family or that of her fiancé, Eric Rozzi
The new mother was released from the hospital with strict instructions to avoid heavy lifting which includes her healthy baby Jonathan, who family members lovingly nicknamed, Big Baby and Sumo Wrestler according to Byron.
Byron told the Boston Globe that Jonathan is a quiet baby who likes to snuggle. She added that she was looking forward to motherhood.
