‘Bachelorette’ Contestant Julien Hug Found Dead on Desert Highway

The body of Julien Hug, a contestant on “The Bachelorette” reality television show, was found on a Californian highway two days after his cell phone died while speaking with his parents.

According to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Joe Borja, a "deceased male adult" was found at 11 a.m. Wednesday off Highway 74 in Riverside County, about 90 miles east of Los Angeles. Authorities have refused to confirm the identity and haven’t said whether or not they suspect foul play was involved. Manner of death details will be released pending the result of the autopsy.

The Hug’s family publicist, Audrey Doherty, claims that Hug, 35, was heading towards his parent’s new Palm Desert restaurant, Augusta Modern, speaking to his family when the line suddenly went dead. After that there was no word from Hug for two days.

"They're just heartbroken about it, but they're hoping to mourn privately," Doherty said. "It's pretty devastating."

The Hug family is well-known for their pricy restaurants in San Diego, including Bertrand at Mr. A's and Mille Fleurs. Hug had been acting as a host-night manager for Mille Fleurs and was supposedly following in his father’s footsteps.

"Tall, slim, stylishly dressed and handsome enough to land on a GQ cover in his spare time, Julien adeptly continues the legacy of hospitality that has won Mille Fleurs its loyal clientele," stated a restaurant critic of his role at the restaurant.

Hug was a contestant on “The Bachelorette” Season five in May 2009. He was passed up by bachelorette Jilian Harris for Ed Swiderski.
